SHAWNEE, Okla. - With their back against the wall, the Hillcats found a way to register a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Oklahoma Baptist in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Bison Field.
Junior Veronica Subu notched the game-winning goal in the 77th minute of play. There was a scramble in the box and Subu found a way to get the ball into the back of the net.
RSU tied the game in the 67 minute of play. Senior Abby Rickner sent a corner kick into the middle of the box and Jordan Beasley headed it into the goal.
The Hillcats fell behind 2-0 early in the contest. Nataley Johnson connected on a corner kick from Marta Venegas in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bison doubled their lead in the 25th minute of the game. Elisa Brito slotted the ball through the RSU defense and Courtney Anderson drilled it into the net.
Sophomore Melissa Subu cut OBU's lead in the 22nd minute. Freshman Tara Garrett blasted a shot off the back post and the ball landed at Subu's feet and she drilled it into the goal.
The Lady Bison took a 2-1 lead into intermission. The Lady Bison out-shot the Hillcats 9-7 in the opening half; however RSU edge OBU 5-4 in the second stanza.
Chelsea McMullin registered the win in goal for the Hillcats, making six saves and allowing two goals. Shannon Griffith was tagged with the lost in the net, making five saves and allowing three goals.
With the win, the Hillcats move on to the semifinals against Oklahoma City University. OCU advanced to the round of four with a 3-0 victory over Lubbock Christian.
Rogers State (10-6-3, 6-4-1) will travel to OCU Tuesday to take on the Stars at 5 p.m.
