Claremore, Okla. - The Rogers State men's soccer team lost a hard fought battle on Saturday afternoon as Lindenwood University (Mo.) garnered a 1-0 win over the Hillcats in their final non-conference match of the season.
The Lions registered the game-winning goal in the 70th minute of play. The Hillcats fended off back to back shots by the Lions but as goalkeeper Jeremy Swift deflected the second shot the ball landed at Tiago Baptista's feet and he buried the ball in the back of the net.
RSU had ample opportunities to earn the equalizer but did not capitalize on its chances. The Hillcats best opportunity came with 12 minutes to play in the contest, freshman Mohammed Shaban fired a shot upper 90 but LU goalkeeper Franc Reolid Sanz was able to tip the ball over the crossbar.
The Hillcats blasted 13 shots in the game and put six shots on frame. The Lions took 18 shots with five on goal.
Swift recorded the loss in goal for the Hillcats. The Bixby, Okla. native made four saves and allowed one goal.
Rogers State (7-5) return to the pitch on Tuesday as they host Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
