Hillcats Battle Eagles to Draw, 2-2

Claremore, Okla. - The Rogers State men's soccer team battled Oklahoma Christian for 110 minutes on Tuesday evening at Soldier Field however, neither team was able to score the game-winning goal and the contest ended in a 2-2 draw. 

RSU tallied the first goal of the evening in the second minute of play. Senior Henrique Sousa slotted the ball across the face of the goal to Freshman Mohammad Shaban who buried it into the net.

The Eagles recorded the equalized in the 15th minute. OC served a corner kick into the box as the ball bounced around the Hillcats were unable to clear the it out of danger and Trey Boykin fired the ball into the goal.

Shaban struck again the in the 21rst minute of the game. Freshman Tyler Rector drove the ball into the box. The ball skipped off Sousa's foot right to Shaban on the back post and he drilled it into the net.

RSU held onto the 2-1 advantage at intermission. The Hilcats took six shots in the opening half and the Eagles managed just three.

With 15 minutes to play in the regulation, Sousa fired a shot from the top of the box and OC goalkeeper Tim Spencer made a diving save to keep the Eagles alive.

OC recorded the tying goal in the 87th minute of the game. The Hillcat defense was unable to clear the ball leaving Neil Hilton alone in the box. RSU keeper Jeremy Swift came sliding in, getting a hand on the ball, but Hilton broke free and put it into the net before the RSU defense could recover.

The Hillcats managed the only good scoring opportunity in the pair of overtime periods. In the first overtime, Sousa dribbled through three defenders and fired a shot on goal however; Spencer was there to make the save.

Rogers State (7-5-1, 2-2-1) returns to the pitch next Tuesday as they travel to Chickasha, Okla. to face the University of Science and Arts at 3 p.m.
