Cats Claw Past Lady Chaps, 1-0

CLAREMORE, OKLA. – The Rogers State women topped Lubbock Christian Saturday at Soldier Field with a 1-0 victory over the Lady Chaparrals.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 56th minute on a free kick by Veronica Subu from 45 yards out. The junior from Henderson, Nev., put the ball on the backside of the box and into the lap of Tara Garrett who quickly blasted the ball into the upper 90 of the goal.

RSU relied heavily upon defending Sooner Athletic Conference defensive player of the week Chelsea McMullin. The sophomore goalkeeper pitched her fifth shutout of the season while hauling in nine saves in the Hillcat victory.

LCU outshot the Hillcats 14-6 with RSU putting three of those on goal.

The victory puts the Hillcats tied atop the conference standings at 2-0 after the first week of conference play. Rogers State hits the road Tuesday, Oct. 4 to face Southern Nazarene at 5 p.m in Bethany, Okla.
