CLAREMORE, Okla. - Senior Hunter Peterson made history on Thursday night at the Claremore Expo as she hit the 1,000 point mark amidst the Rogers State womens basketball team's, 89-52, route over Oklahoma Christian.
The Jenks, Okla. native was six points shy of her 1,000th career point coming into the night and wasted no time meeting the milestone. Peterson opened the game with a trey from the left wing. Her 1,000th point came with 6:36 to play in the opening half as she knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Cats the lead. The four-year veteran ended the night with 14 points and is the charter member of the 1,000 point club.
Peterson's bucket from long distance ignited an 18-3 run to end the first half. RSU took a 44-26 lead into intermission and never looked back. Senior Cortney Crockett led all scorers at the half with 13 points as she hit 6-of-8 shots from the field.
Five Hillcats finished with double figures scoring, four Cats finished with four assists and five players pulled in six rebounds. Crockett paced the Cats with a career-high 20 points. The Reading, Pa. native added six rebounds and three steals to the stat sheet. Juniors Angie Criner and Brittani Smith joined Peterson as they contributed 14 points apiece. Senior Andrea Miles rounded out the double digit scorers with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Cats dominated the boards as they out-rebounded the Lady Eagles 36-28. RSU forced OC into 20 turnovers and nabbed 11 steals.
The Hillcats shot a season-best 59 percent from the floor as they converted 36 of 61 shots from the floor. RSU shot 56 percent from the floor and 67 percent from the charity strip.
Rogers State (13-7, 7-6) will travel to Alva, Okla. on Saturday as they seek revenge against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Lady Rangers stunned the Cats at home, 79-69, on Dec. 2. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on RSU Radio 91.3FM. With the win tonight the Hillcats move into sole possession of fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. Lubbock Christian handed top-ranked Oklahoma City its first loss of the season tonight in Lubbock. The Lady Chaps are three games ahead of the Hillcats in the standings.
