ALVA, Okla. - The Rogers State women lead for most of the contest and pulled away from Northwestern Oklahoma State in the second half for a 86-61 victory in Percefull Fieldhouse in Alva, Okla.
RSU built a six point advantage over the Lady Rangers in the opening five minutes to lead 13-7. NWOSU fought back to claim the lead with just over eleven minutes left in the first period. It was the lone lead for the home squad as RSU closed out the final 7:20 with an 18-4 and the Hillcats entered the half up 38-24.
The second half saw the Hillcat women build the lead to as much as 31 points with 8:55 remaining in the contest. A 3-pointer by Talytha Williams with 4:10 cut the Cats lead to 19 points. Taylor Jeffs responded by tallying four points in the final 2:19 as RSU claimed the 86-61 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State.
All but one Hillcat player scored as the Hillcats knocked down 49 percent of their shots. Angie Criner led all scorers with a game high 19 points, scoring 11 in the first period. RSU had five players score in double-figures. Hunter Peterson tallied 13 while Andrea Miles had 12 points. Cortney Crockett chimed in with 11 for coach Amy Williams' squad. Candice Stewart recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
NWOSU was led by Audrey Richmond with 11 points and Claudia Vazquez chipped in 11 points off the bench as the Lady Rangers shot 39 percent from the field and were outrebounded by RSU 49-32. The Lady Rangers turned the ball over only 11 times but RSU nabbed six steals.
Rogers State (13-7, 8-6) will welcome Oklahoma Baptist to the Claremore Expo on Thursday night. Tip time is 6 p.m. and RSU Radio 91.3FM and RSU Public Television will simulcast the game.
