BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - The Rogers State University women's soccer team start the 2010 season off on the right foot with a 5-1 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan University in their season opener on Tuesday afternoon in Bartlesville.
RSU put the game away early against the Lady Eagles, who fell to 0-1 on the season.
Shereen Clarke put the Hillcats on the board in the 21 minute, slotting the ball past the goalkeeper after dribbling through the defense. Sophomore Lauren Hager gave RSU a 2-0 advantage just before intermission, dribbling past the defense and blasting the ball into the back of the net.
The Hillcats wasted no time in the second half, scoring in the first five minutes of play. Freshman Demi Mullin added her first collegiate goal in the 49 minute to give RSU a 3-0 lead.
Clarke added her second goal of the game nine minutes later with a rocket from 30-yards out.
The Lady Eagles avoided the shutout with a goal by Libby Storie in the 74 minute of play, making it a 4-1 game.
Freshman Sarah Schneider capped off the scoring for the Hillcats in the 82 minute, finishing a pass slotted through the defense by senior Casey Freeman.
Chelsea McMullin started the game in goal for the Hillcats, making three saves and allowing no goals. Jessica McCutcheon entered in the second half, allowing just one goal.
The Hillcats had 15 shots on goal in the game with OWU keeper Kelli Crawford making 10 saves.
RSU women's soccer returns to action on Friday, Sept. 10 as they open their home slate against Friends University (Kan.) at 5 p.m.
