CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team settled for a doubleheader split against Northwestern Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon at the Hillcat Complex in Claremore.
The Hillcats pulled out an 8-7 victory in 11 innings in the opener. Northwestern controlled the nightcap with three early runs and sailed to a 4-1 victory.
GAME ONE
Linsey Curtis and Taryn Hernandez combined for three home runs to push the Cats over the top in game one.
RSU trailed 6-2 entering the bottom of the sixth when Curtis crushed a two-run shot to left-field to cut the deficit in half. Hernandez went deep with two outs in the seventh to force extra innings and made good on the opportunity with an 11-inning complete-game.
Both teams pushed a run across in the ninth, but it was Ashlie Fauchier's 11th inning single that proved to be the game winner. The freshman shortstop finished 3 for 5 with two runs and an RBI.
Hernandez scattered 12 hits across 11 innings with one walk and one strikeout. Jacey Juden took the complete-game loss for the Lady Rangers.
GAME THREE
The RSU bats went quiet in the nightcap as Northwestern tallied four runs on 10 hits.
The Hillcats' only run came on a first-inning homer by Hernandez. Juden (17-13) held the Cats to just two hits over the final six innings to bounce back for the pitching victory.
A two-run homer by Ashley LoveLady in the third put the Lady Rangers in front for good. Lovelady was one of three Northwestern players to register two-hits in the contest.
Hernandez (13-4) suffered the loss after giving up four earned runs on 10 hits. She worked all 18 innings of the afternoon for RSU in the pitcher's circle and also racked up four hits.
Rogers State (32-16, 13-11) will travel to Shawnee, Okla., Thursday to face St. Gregory's. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
