ALVA, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State pulled off its biggest win of the season with a late rally Thursday night while a trio of Rogers State starters watched from the bench.
Â
The Hillcats were plagued by foul trouble in the second half and the Lady Rangers took full advantage by posting a 65-62 victory on Senior Night at Percefull Fieldhouse in Alva, Okla. Jenny Hardin, Yoda Woods and Candice Stewart were all disqualified from the contest in the closing minutes as the Cats were whistled for 17 fouls in the second stanza.
Â
Despite the chorus of whistles, RSU led for the first 35 minutes of the game and had a shot to win it in the final seconds. Annalene Farias gave Northwestern its first lead with a bucket at the five minute mark. Woods fouled out with 4:20 to play on an illegal screen and Hardin picked up her fifth on the ensuing possession as Keindra Scott converted a 3-point play for the Rangers.
Â
The Hillcats responded with a 7-0 run to regain the lead. Logan Froese forced her way into the paint and muscled through a basket to put RSU back in front, 62-60, with two minutes remaining. The Cats clung to the two point advantage until Farias worked her way to the foul line with 19 seconds showing on the scoreboard. The 6-3 post made the first attempt, but missed the second. However, Hannah Guthrie came down with the offensive rebound, absorbed a foul, and calmly knocked down two free throws to give the Lady Rangers a one-point lead.
Â
With RSU's entire front line on the bench, Hunter Peterson had no choice but to try and create her own shot. The junior guard drove deep into the lane to hoist a potential game-winner when she was whistled for a charge. Autumn Klugh sealed the victory with two free throws to reach the final margin.
Â
Northwestern outscored the Hillcats by 12 after halftime, shooting 48 percent from the floor. Guthrie led four Lady Rangers in double figures with 14 points. Peterson was the only RSU player to reach double digits with 14 points. The Cats were limited to only eight field goals in the second half.
