EDMOND, Okla. - The Rogers State men's basketball team rallied late in the second half but fell short as Oklahoma Christian edged the Cats 64-58 at the Eagles Nest on Saturday evening.
The Hillcats clawed their way back into the game late in the second half. However, the Cats were plagued with early foul trouble, late turnovers and posted a poor shooting performance which kept the lead out of reach.
RSU used a 13-5 run to cut the Eagles lead to a bucket. OC brought their lead back to nine with a 7-0 run. The Cats wouldn't give up. They pulled within three points with two made free throws by Matt Kellogg with 1:11 to play. RSU committed two turnovers in the final 30 seconds and were forced to foul. Made free throws by the Eagles sealed the game.
John Boyd and Deveric Taylor led the Hillcats in scoring. Boyd posted 17 points while Taylor added 16. The senior duo were the only RSU players to reach double figures.
Both teams started slow in the opening half. OC heated up and built a 12 point lead with a 6-1 run. Joey Twilley ended the half with a bucket from long distance to cut the lead to nine. The Eagles took a 33-24 lead into the break.
Justin Barkley's squad shot 73-percent from the charity stripe. They shot just 37-percent from the field and 25-percent from long distance.
The Eagles were led by Andre Vaughn and Devan White who posted 15 points apiece.
Rogers State (5-5, 1-2) will return to conference action on Saturday, Dec. 11 as they travel to John Brown. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. The game will be carried live on RSU 91.3 FM and rsuhillcats.com.
