SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Rogers State women's basketball team fell to Missouri State, 87-57 in an exhibition on Monday evening at JQH Arena.
RSU committed 11 turnovers in the first half, allowing the Lady Bears to open the game with a significant lead.
The Lady Bear, preseason pick to win the Missouri Valley Conference, jumped out to a double-digit lead eight minutes into the game with a layup by junior Jasmine Malone (19-8). MSU kept the Hillcats at arm's length for the rest of the game.
Freshman Karly Buer spurred MSU with 15 points in the first half. The freshman guard shot 6 of 6 from the floor. She was 1 of 1 from behind the arc and 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. She finished the night with 17 points. The Lady Bears took a commanding 46-19 lead into the locker room at the half.
RSU was 0-6 from 3-point range, shooting 24 percent from the field before intermission. Senior Courtney Crocket led the Hillcats in scoring in the first half with 10 points.
Junior Casey Garrison led the Lady Bears in the second half, pouring in 12 of her 16 points after the break. MSU outscored the Hillcats 41-38 and RSU shot 37 percent from the field.
Crocket led the Hillcats with 16 points while senior Candice Stewart chipped in with 11 boards. Sophomore Logan Froese, junior Angie Criner and senior Andrea Miles posted nine points apiece.
RSU will open the regular season next Monday, Nov. 8 as they travel to Springdale, Ark. to take on Ecclesia College at 6 p.m.
