Hillcats Slide Past Our Lady of the Lake, 3-2

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State built an early lead and managed to hold off a late charge by Our Lady of the Lake University (San Antonio, Texas) to secure a 3-2 win at Soldier Field Friday afternoon.

The Hillcats dominated the Saints in the early portion of the match with three first half goals. Junior Carlos Zuta put the Cats on the scoreboard when he won the ball from a defender just inside the box and scored in the 12th minute. Sophomore Chase Walker and senior Vitor Mantovani followed with breakaway goals to give RSU a commanding 3-0 lead.

However, the Saints refused to go down quietly. Ricky Guerra found the back of the net right before the half and Salim Sandoval scored less than two minutes into the second period to cut the lead to one. The Saints kept pressure on the RSU defense throughout the second half, but couldn't muster a third score.

RSU goalie Sean Surridge recorded nine saves in a brilliant effort. Surridge swallowed up a desperation shot by Eric Torkildsen in the final seconds of the match to protect the victory. OLLU outshot the Cats 11-5 in the second half and 18-13 overall.

Rogers State (2-1-0) earned its second straight win and will return to action Saturday night at Soldier Field. The Hillcats will welcome Oklahoma Wesleyan to Claremore for an 8 p.m. match.
