CLAREMORE, Okla. - Persistence paid off for Rogers State Saturday night as the Hillcats scored a pair of late goals to drop Oklahoma Wesleyan, 2-0 at Soldier Field.
The Hillcats were unable to cash in on a number of scoring opportunities early in the match, but continued to keep the pressure on the OWU defense. RSU finally broke through when T.J. Martin made a beautiful cross to setup Carlos Zuta in the middle of the field for the first goal in the 60th minute. Griffin Kane tacked on a second goal with just over two minutes to play to put the game on ice.
Sean Surridge recorded two saves to record the shutout for the Hillcats. Eagles' goalie Vladan Glavonic held his own during a busy night's work, recording 10 saves while allowing two goals. RSU outshot OWU 21-9 on the night and finished the contest with 12 shots on goal.
Rogers State (3-1-0) extended its winning streak to three games with wins over Our Lady of the Lake and Oklahoma Wesleyan this weekend. The Hillcats will hit the road next week to face Friends University (Wichita, Kan.) Friday and Bethel College (Newton, Kan.) Saturday.
