OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Rogers State wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader split against Northwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium in Oklahoma City.

The Cats banged out 10 hits, including two home runs, to ride past the Lady Rangers in the opener, 7-3. However, RSU was shutout until the seventh inning in the nightcap and its late rally came up short in a 4-1 loss.
GAME ONE
Â
Katie Bointy and Jenny Johnson teamed up for a two early homers and the Hillcats controlled the opener from the outset for a 7-3 win.

Bointy followed a one-out single by Sara Walkup in the second inning with a blast to left field. After a double by Natalie Smith to open the third frame, Johnson cranked her record-setting 14th long ball of the year. The Hillcats tacked on three additional insurance runs and Johnson held off a seventh inning rally by the Rangers to secure the win.

Northwestern brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh by loading the bases before Johnson escaped the jam with a game-ending pop up. Johnson also set a new school single-season record for wins with her 28th of the year, allowing three runs, one earned, on eight hits. Megan Lack took the loss for the Lady Rangers.

Johnson, Lillian Nevarez and Megan Wood tallied two hits apiece for the Hillcats.
GAME TWO

Northwestern starter Amy Ramirez quieted the RSU bats just long enough to secure the split as the Hillcats fell short in a 4-1 decision.

The Lady Rangers carried a 1-0 lead into the sixth when a two-out error led to three additional runs. Northwestern ripped four singles following the Hillcat miscue to take a four-run lead into the seventh.

Nevarez doubled and scored the lone RSU run in the top of the seventh. Marie Gaudet and Allison Bean followed with singles, but were left stranded on the base paths when Ramirez retired Walkup to end the game. Ramirez scattered six hits across seven innings to record the win. Johnson was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs on 10 hits. Nevarez and Gaudet combined for four of the Cats six hits in the contest.

Rogers State (30-22, 12-14) completed the regular season with a fifth place finish in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. The Hillcats will play Oklahoma Christian in the first round of the conference tournament Friday at 10 a.m. The tournament will be held at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
