RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Rogers State dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Arkansas Tech Tuesday afternoon at Chartwells Complex in Russellville, Ark.

The Golden Suns overcame a 5-0 deficit to post an 8-6 victory in the opener. ATU rode that momentum into the nightcap and picked up an 8-0 run-rule victory to complete the sweep. The Suns, who lead the Gulf South Conference, improved to 31-19 on the season.
GAME ONE

The Hillcats jumped out to a big lead, but couldn't hold on as the Golden Suns rallied for an 8-6 victory in the opener.

Sophomore Katie Bointy belted two home runs to give RSU a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the fourth inning. ATU scored three runs in the fourth to cut the lead to two. Lillian Nevarez doubled to start the fifth and scored on a single by Marie Gaudet to make it 6-3 in favor of the Hillcats. However, the Suns scored three runs in the fifth to tie the game and plated two more in the sixth for the win.

ATU roped four straight singles with two outs in the sixth to score the decisive runs. Sarah Pratt and Casey Hammons tallied three hits apiece while Casey Hammons (14-6) went the distance to record the win.

Jenny Johnson took the loss for RSU after giving up eight runs, six earned, on 14 hits with six strikeouts. Bointy, Johnson, Megan Wood and Sara Walkup had two hits apiece for the Hillcats.
GAME TWO

RSU had no answers for the Golden Suns in the nightcap as ATU claimed an 8-0 run-rule victory.

Tiphani Moon homered to cap a four-run third inning that gave the Suns a 5-0 lead. Stephanie Lasley singled and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth and Kacie Visina singled home the final run in the fifth to reach the run-rule.

Morgan Rodgers (12-10) held the Cats to no runs and just two hits to record the win. She racked up nine strikeouts without yielding a walk. Moon led the offensive attack with three hits.

Johnson (23-15) suffered the loss for RSU. She gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits in two innings of work. Jackie Kragel tossed the final 2.1 innings for the Hillcats, allowing four runs on eight hits. Nevarez and Gaudet tallied the only two hits of the game for RSU.

Rogers State (25-17) returns home Thursday for an important conference doubleheader against Southern Nazarene. The Hillcats will honor their five seniors prior to the first game scheduled for 2 p.m. Both games will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
