RSU Women Whip Northwestern, 84-60

LUBBOCK, Texas - Rogers State put together one of its finest offensive performances of the season with an emphatic 84-60 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday.

The Hillcats used a balanced scoring attack to record its first ever postseason win at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University. Five RSU players finished the afternoon in double figures, led by sophomore Katie Rice with 15 points. Senior Azzie Knox tallied 12 points while freshmen Effanesia Baker and Meagan Selvidge added 11. Junior Autumn Thompson rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points and a game-high six assists.

Selvidge was the surprise sparkplug off the bench. She poured in three 3-pointers in just her third game back from a knee injury that had sidelined her for more than two months. The Hillcat bench outscored the Lady Rangers reserves 33-10.

RSU took control early in the contest and led 37-21 at the intermission. The Cats expanded the lead in the second half and cruised to a 24-point margin of victory. RSU dominated the boards with a 42-29 advantage and dished out 17 assists on 26 made field goals. The Hillcats shot 47 percent from the floor and canned nine 3-pointers in the contest.

Coach Amy Williams' squad completed a three-game sweep of the Lady Rangers on the season. Northwestern was led in scoring by Claudia Vasquez who posted a game-high 21 points. Second team all-conference selection D'Shanna Butler was held to just 12 points.

Rogers State (18-13, 11-11) will play No. 13 Oklahoma City University in Wednesday's quarterfinal round. The Hillcats and Stars will tip-off at 4 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
