Softball Hillcats Stumble against Oklahoma Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Rogers State dropped its third straight doubleheader with a pair of losses to Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City Monday.

The Lady Eagles capitalized on six Hillcat errors in the first game of the day to post a 5-1 win and then squeaked past RSU in the nightcap, 5-4. The 11th ranked Cats have lost sixth in row since reaching the 40-win mark April 22. Despite the slide RSU remains in fourth place in the conference standings with one game remaining before the postseason tournament.

Rogers State (40-14, 14-11) will host No. 3 Oklahoma City in a single make-up game Tuesday at the Hillcat Complex. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.

GAME ONE
The Hillcats got off to a rocky start and never fully recovered as they fell 5-1 in the opener.

RSU committed four errors in the bottom of the first inning, leading to two runs for the Lady Eagles. The Hillcats cut the lead to one when Randi Tyler doubled home Megan Wood in the top of the third to make it 2-1. However, OC answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rachel Smith and Casey Brady roped back-to-back doubles to start the inning and Christin Dobbs followed with an RBI single up the middle. Tracy Washam added an RBI single down the left field line to reach the final margin, 5-1.

Kelli Dunagan (26-12) suffered the loss for RSU after giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits. Linzi Farris (12-8) earned the win for OC with a complete game performance. Junior Sara Walkup tallied two of the Hillcats five hits in the contest.

GAME TWO
The Hillcat stayed close in the nightcap before ultimately falling a run short, 5-4.

RSU twice rallied to tie the game in the first five innings. Tanya Koch tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single to left in the top of the third. OC jumped back in front with a run in the bottom of the inning before Koch knotted things up once more with a RBI double in the fifth.

The Lady Eagles grabbed a 4-2 lead with run scoring singles by Smith and Tiffany Sherman in the bottom of the fifth. Randi Tyler closed the gap to one with her sixth home run of the season in the top of the sixth. But OC stretched the lead back to two on an RBI triple by Sandra Darmstadt in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cats picked up a run in the top of the seventh but saw their window of opportunity close when Wood, the potential game-tying run, was caught stealing in the final frame.

Dunagan (26-13) took the loss after giving up five runs (two earned) on 11 hits in 5.2 innings of work. Caitlin Matthies (12-6) picked up the win for OC. Tanya Koch went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Cats while Washam led the Lady Eagles with three hits.
