CLAREMORE, Okla. - Lubbock Christian upped its winning streak to 18 games and finished off a three-game sweep of Rogers State with a 13-2 victory in the finale at the Hillcat Complex Saturday.
Â
For the third straight game the Chaparrals jumped out to an early lead and put RSU on the defensive. LCU scored eight runs over the first three innings and cruised to its twelfth straight conference win.
Â
The Chaps opened the game with back-to-back singles and took their first lead on a three run opposite field homer by Will Stramp. Stramp added another three run homer as part of a four run fifth inning for Lubbock Christian. The junior third baseman finished with seven RBI.
Â
Tyler Johnson belted a two run homer in the third as the Chaps opened up an 8-0 lead. Travis Harold cranked a solo bomb to start the Hillcat third, but it wouldn't be near enough. The Hillcats scored a run on two hits and two walks in the fifth inning, but simply couldn't keep pace with the Chaps. Harold was the lone bright spot for the Cats. The junior went 3-for-3 and finished a single short of the cycle.
Â
RSU was outscored 26-3 in the three-game series despite only being out-hit by five. The Hillcats tallied eight hits on Saturday while surrendering only nine. However, eight of LCU's 13 runs came via the long ball.
Â
Starter Josh Walker (2-1) was tagged with his first loss after allowing eight runs, seven earned, over the first three innings. Lefty Sam Cornell gave up five more runs over the next two while Ryan White quieted the Chaps by not allowing a hit in the final two innings.
Â
James Wallace (7-0) earned the win for LCU with five innings of work. He scattered six hits and allowed two runs with four walks. No. 4 Lubbock Christian (25-1, 12-0) remains tied with Oklahoma City for first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings.
Â
Rogers State (15-8, 7-7) suffered its third consecutive loss and dropped to sixth place in the SAC standings. The Hillcats will host Clarke College in a non-conference game Monday at the Hillcat Complex. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
