Baseball Cats Crush Crusaders, 15-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State took out its frustrations from a tough weekend on Clarke College (Dubuque, Iowa) by pounding the Crusaders 15-1 at the Hillcat Complex Monday.

Ryan Littlejohn swatted an opposite field grand slam in the bottom of the first inning and the Hillcats cruised to a seven inning run-rule victory. RSU starter Tyler Whitaker dominated the Crusaders over the first six innings. After allowing a leadoff homer to Pete Lister in the top of the first, Whitaker retired the next 15 batters in order. A sixth inning walk to J.D. Judd was the only other blemish of the day for the junior right-hander.

Brandon Denton gave the Cats a four run lead with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the second inning. RSU added three runs in the fifth and then exploded for seven runs in the sixth. Denton led off the sixth with a walk and Tyler Harold followed with a double. Joe Faircloth chased both runners home with a hard single to right field. Eric Schulz then notched his first hit of the spring with a two RBI double down the right field line and Denton capped the scoring with a two RBI single in his second at-bat of the inning.

The Hillcats tallied 10 hits on the day. Denton led the way by going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Littlejohn picked up four RBI with his team-leading fifth home run.

Whitaker (2-2) racked up nine strikeouts while allowing just one hit in six innings of work. Freshman Matt Brimer worked a scoreless seventh inning to close the game.

Rogers State (16-8) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. The Hillcats return to action Tuesday afternoon against Bacone College at the Hillcat Complex. First pitch of the single nine-inning game is slated for 2 p.m.
