Baseball Cats Blast Oklahoma Wesleyan, 15-1

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Rogers State banged out 15 hits on the day and scored nine runs in the seventh inning to cap a 15-1 rout of Oklahoma Wesleyan at Doenges Stadium in Bartlesville Wednesday.

Twelve different Hillcats got in on the hit parade as the game was called after seven innings via the run-rule. Lost in the offensive onslaught was a strong performance by sophomore pitcher Grant Cosby. The Fayetteville, Ark., native scattered three hits across six innings of work and gave up just one run. Cosby (2-0) picked up his second win of the season while fanning four batters without a walk.

RSU put its first run on the board when Joe Faircloth delivered a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. Ryan Salsbury and Faircloth roped back-to-back RBI singles in the fourth as the Hillcats took a 3-0 lead. The Eagles scored their only run of the afternoon when Daniel Simmons belted a solo homer over the center field wall in the bottom of the fourth inning.

After that, the rout was on. RSU added two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth before busting the game wide open in the top of the seventh. The Hillcats sent 12 hitters to the plate in the inning as eight different players notched a base hit. Tyler Harold, Jake Taylor and Randy Jones delivered three consecutive pinch-hit singles to cap the scoring.

D.J. Thompson struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to halt the game with a 14-run lead. Faircloth and Zack Hamby paced the offense with two hits and two RBI apiece.

Rogers State (8-4, 2-3) returns to conference play Thursday as the Hillcats welcome Northwestern Oklahoma State to the Hillcat Complex. The Cats and Rangers will play a nine-inning game with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
