Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Rangers Rain on RSU Women, 75-64

ALVA, Okla. - Simply put, it was just Northwestern Oklahoma State's night at the Percefull Fieldhouse in Alva Thursday.

The Lady Rangers hit eight first half 3-pointers and shot 48-percent from the field to knock off Rogers State and snap a seven-game losing streak. McKenzie Malloy put on a show for the home crown as she poured in seven treys en route to a career-high 26 points. A struggling Northwestern ball club came into the game shooting just 33-percent as a team. However, on this night the Rangers looked nothing like the squad that suffered a 21-point loss to RSU in Claremore a month ago.

The Hillcats played tough on both ends of the floor, but had no answer for the Rangers long-range assault. The teams battled through five ties and seven lead changes before Northwestern closed the first half on a 19-3 run. Kacee McCulley buried a three from the corner right before the halftime horn to give the Lady Rangers a 40-27 advantage at the break.

Northwestern opened the second half on a 6-0 run and appeared on the verge of blowing out the Hillcats when it stretched the lead to 24 points with 13 minutes to play. RSU clawed its way back to within striking distance before running out of time.

Eight straight Hillcat points by Andrea Robinson made it a 16-point game with 9:05 remaining in the contest. Late in the half the Hillcats put together a 10-0 run over a four-minute stretch to cut the lead to single digits. Katie Rice capped the run with a put-back bucket to make it 68-59 with 2:09 left.

Ultimately, it was too little, too late as the RSU ran out of time. Kacee McCulley buried a baseline jumper and the Lady Rangers hit three free throws in the closing seconds to closeout an 11-point win. McCulley tallied 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting to add to Malloy's career night. Breck Muller enjoyed her best performance of the season in the loss. The junior transfer nailed a career-high four 3-pointers and posted 16 points for RSU. Rice added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Rogers State (12-15, 8-11) remains in seventh place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings after the loss. The Hillcats will travel to Oklahoma City Saturday to face Oklahoma Christian. RSU defeated the Lady Eagles 67-64 at the Claremore Expo on Jan. 17. Tip-off Saturday is slated for 6 p.m. and the game will be aired live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
