OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - For the second time in three days Rogers State was upended on the road by a team it defeated earlier in the season at the Claremore Expo.
Â
Oklahoma Christian's Brittney Kennedy came off the bench to score 22 points for the Lady Eagles as they avenged a three-point loss to the Hillcats with a 61-44 win in Oklahoma City Saturday.
Â
Kennedy went 9-for-11 from the field in setting a new career-high in points. She scored 14 points in the first half alone as OC jumped out to a 30-17 lead. RSU managed just six baskets in the first half. Despite their struggles, the Hillcats led by one at the midway point of the first half. With 9:37 remaining in the period the Lady Eagles went on an 18-4 run to take the lead for good.
Â
OC methodically added to its lead in the second half. Devin Sewell's layup with 10:22 to play gave the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 41-23. RSU briefly cut the margin back down to single digits by scoring 17 of the next 25 points. Yoda Woods scored a bucket inside with 3:52 remaining to make it 49-40. However, OC outscored the Hillcats 12-4 the rest of the way to net a 17-point win.
Â
Kailan DeCamp posted 17 points to add to Kennedy's totals for the Lady Eagles. Azzie Knox led the charge for the Cats with 14 points and eight rebounds. No other RSU player reached double figures as the Hillcats shot just 30-percent from the field for the game.
Â
The two teams split the season series with both teams winning on their home floor. RSU defeated the Lady Eagles 67-64 on Jan. 17, in Claremore. Saturday's defeat marked the eighth straight loss on the road for the Hillcats, who are in the midst of a four-game road trip to close out the regular season.
Â
Rogers State (12-16, 8-12) remains in a tie for seventh place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings and will travel to No. 8 Oklahoma Baptist Thursday evening. The Hillcats and Lady Bison are set to tip-off at 6 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
