CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State sophomore Yoda Woods turned in her best performance of the season to help the Hillcats hold off Oklahoma Christian 67-64 at the Claremore Expo Thursday evening.
Â
Woods posted a career-high 17 points and 15 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season in fine fashion.
Â
RSU controlled the lead for the final 32 minutes of the game. However, the final moments were too close for comfort. OC's Lindsey Gibson scored on a drive with 32 seconds remaining to cut the lead to one. The Lady Eagles sent Azzie Knox to the free throw line with 18 seconds left, but the junior forward missed both attempts. Before Gibson could get a look at a potential game-winning shot, the Hillcats forced a turnover and freshman guard Hunter Peterson sunk two free throws with two seconds left to seal the victory.
Â
Gibson matched Woods with 17 points. Peterson and sophomore guard Tasha Parker each tallied 11 points for RSU.
Â
The two teams exchanged the lead five times in the first half before RSU grabbed it for good on a 15-foot jumper by Marshay Jasper with just under eight minutes to play. The Hillcats led by as many as nine in the second half before OC cut it to three with four minutes left. It remained a one possession game until the final horn as the Hillcats were able to pick up their fourth conference win of the season.
Â
RSU owned a 37-to-30 rebounding advantage and picked up 10 steals from the Lady Eagles. Peterson swiped a career-high four steals on the night. Woods went 6-of-12 from the floor and made 5-of-7 attempts from the free throw line.
Â
Rogers State (8-8, 4-4) returns home Saturday evening to face Northwestern Oklahoma Sate at the Claremore Expo. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. and the game will be aired live on RSU Public Television and RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
