Hillcats Romp Lady Rangers, 83-62

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State turned in its best first half effort of the season and cruised to its fifth conference win with an 83-62 rout of Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Claremore Expo Saturday.

The Hillcats shot 54-percent in the first half to build a 47-20 lead. The game was tied 10-10 before RSU went on a 14-0 run and never looked back. Twelve RSU players got in on the scoring act before the night was over.

Hayley KnifeChief and Katie Rice sparked the Hillcats off the bench in the first half. The freshmen duo combined for 17 first half points on 8-of-12 shooting. RSU tallied 11 assists in the first frame while only turning it over six times. Northwestern managed just seven field goals before halftime.

RSU led by as many as 30 in the second half before the regulars gave way to the reserves in the final minutes. Azzie Knox enjoyed her best game in a Hillcat uniform with 14 points and 12 rebounds to record her first double-double. Katie Rice added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting while Yoda Woods finished with 13 points and eight boards. Andrea Robinson nailed two 3-pointers and posted 10 points. The RSU bench contributed 46 points in the winning effort.

D'Shanna Butler scored 16 second half points for the Lady Rangers to keep things from getting too far out of hand. She finished with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting. No other NWOSU player reached double figures.

Rogers State (9-8, 5-4) picked up its second straight win and moved into sole possession of sixth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. The Hillcats will travel to Oklahoma City University Thursday for a rematch with the Stars. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. and the game can be heard live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
