RSU Men Outlast Southwestern, 4-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State earned an early advantage and took care of business the rest of the way in a 4-1 win over Southwestern College (Winfield, Kan.) on Saturday at Soldier Field.

The Hillcats struck first on a goal by freshman Des Fitzgerald nine minutes into the match. Vitor Mantovani came off the bench to create a spark for RSU. Mantovani set up Salim Nelson to give the Cats a 2-0 lead, then added a goal of his own just before the half on a penalty kick to make it 3-0.

Kyle Smith finally put Southwestern on the scoreboard ten minutes into the second half. However, Mantovani responded with his second goal of the match to reach the final margin, 4-1.

Coach Derek Larkin's squad improved to 5-1-2 on the season with the win and will host USAO in a home conference match on Tuesday at Soldier Field. The match is slated for 4 p.m.
