CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State took care of business in the opening round of the Region VI tournament as the Hillcats routed Northwood University (Cedar Hill, Texas), 4-1, at Soldier Field on Saturday.
Â
RSU advanced to the regional semifinals with the win and will travel to Oklahoma City University to face the Stars on Monday at 4 p.m.
Â
The Hillcats took a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Tiffany Roberts and Vanessa Oxford. Roberts has scored five goals in four post-season games this season. The Lady Knights threatened for a moment when they netted a goal five minutes into the second half to cut the deficit in half. Alysia Kroger scored the lone goal for NU on a rebound off a Bailey Lynn save.
Â
RSU scored twice over the next 12 minutes on penalty kicks to put the game out of reach. Robin Sutherland scored her 43rd goal of the season on the first PK, moving her into a tie for sixth place on the NAIA single season scoring charts. Kacie Hohenberger added another Hillcat goal on a penalty kick to reach the final margin, 4-1.
Â
Rogers State (19-2) is just two wins away from reaching the national tournament. The Hillcats will try to avenge a 1-0 overtime loss to OCU last month in the regional semifinals on Monday.
