Chris Nakashima is in his second season as an assistant coach for the RSU softball program after completing his collegiate career for the RSU baseball team in 2018.
In his first season, Nakashima helped coach the Hillcats to a 33-win season, finishing one game shy of the Heartland Conference regular season championship, their best finish in league standings in the NCAA era. Nakashima helped the development of two all-conference and all-region performers, most noteably with Danelle Day, who ranked in the top 10 in the country in several major categories throughout the regular season, including leading the nation in home runs.
As an assistant coach for RSU softball, Nakashima shares responsibilities for player development along with recruiting and fundraising efforts.
Nakashima joins the Hillcat softball program after completing his collegiate baseball career on College Hill in 2018. The Mississaugo, Canada native played his final two years in the navy and red after starting at Garrett College for his first two college seasons. As an infielder and designated hitter, Nakashima helped propel the Hillcats in 2017 to their first 30-win season since 2013 as the navy and red went 31-19 in the 2017 campaign. As a senior in 2018, Naskashima and the RSU baseball program put together its third straight winning season with a 26-24 record. For his career, Nakashima appeared in 32 games with 15 starts.
While at Garrett College, he hit .305 with 12 doubles, two home runs and 26 RBI as a sophomore. Nakashima was named the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year at Garrett College.
Nakashima graduated from RSU in 2018 with a bachelors degree in sport management.
