Amy Cope begins her third season as the head coach of the Rogers State softball team after being named the third coach in program history in April 2013 following five years as an assistant coach on the Hill.
Â
Cope led the Hillcats to a 14-31 mark in the 2015 season, including a record of 8-15 in Heartland Conference play. RSU closed the year in dramatic fashion rallying to take down the NAIA's top-ranked team Oklahoma City in a 3-2 win at home.
Â
In her first season as head coach, Cope and the Hillcats finished with an 18-35 record in their first season as a member of the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference going 9-15 in league play. RSU closed the year posting an 11-7 mark at the Diamond Sports Complex.
Â
Cope spent five years as an assistant coach at RSU starting in 2009 before taking over as head coach. In 2013, as an assistant, she helped the Hillcats to their best record during her time on the Hill finishing the season 40-19 and making the program’s first ever appearance in the NAIA National Championship.
Â
In her five years as assistant to Mark Dicus, the Hillcats compiled a 175-120 record. As an assistant coach, Cope worked primarily with infielders and coached first base. Under her guidance, 10 infielders were named to the All-Sooner Athletic Conference team while three infielders earned All-Conference Gold Glove recognition.
Â
As recruiting coordinator, Cope brought in the Hillcats best recruiting class to date prior to the 2013 season securing the Softball Cats' first-ever NAIA All-American and the only first-team All-American in RSU school history. The 2012 signing class went on to produce one first-team all-conference selection and three second-team all-conference members.
Â
Cope, formerly Amy Renault, completed a standout playing career at the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma in 2008. She earned all-conference honors in softball at Connors State College before finishing her career at USAO.
Â
The former Claremore High School standout helped the Lady Zebras to a pair of state championships in 2003. During her junior season at CHS, Cope was a member of the girls’ basketball team that won the Oklahoma State 5A title. In her senior campaign, she spurred the Lady Zebras to a softball state title in the fall of 2003.
Â
She is married to RSU Head Women's Basketball Coach Bobby Cope. She completed her Master of Education degree in Sports Administration at East Central University in 2010.
