EDMOND, Okla. — Rogers State Women's Soccer (4-2-2, 2-1-0 MIAA) fell to Central Oklahoma (5-3-1, 2-0-1 MIAA) 3-1 on a rainy Friday night at Tom Thompson Field.
RSU generated five shots, including senior
Anna Hibbard's first career goal, while facing 18 shots and 10 on frame from UCO. Senior
Calais Butts was credited with seven saves, including five in the second half.
RSU fell behind early when Dannae Gutierrez scored for the Bronchos off Sami Allen's assist in the second minute, making it 1-0. Butts kept the Hillcats within a goal during a sustained UCO stretch, saving shots from Camila Mujica in the 26th minute and Caleah Carter in the 34th minute while RSU also defended a corner and multiple off-target attempts.
Te Waiariki Read provided the Cats' only shot of the half in the 32nd minute. Central Oklahoma added another goal through Jordan Hahn in the 36th minute, and the Hillcats went into halftime down 2-0.
RSU cut UCO's lead to 2-1 in the 58th minute, when Hibbard (1) scored off an assist from
Kelsey Hogan - her first assist of the season and the second of her career representing the Red and Navy. Earlier in the second half, Butts kept the Hillcats within reach with a save in the 55th minute before the Bronchos earned a corner. RSU had looks from
Lydia Smith and
Taylor Colmo after Hibbard's goal, while Butts stopped three more shots between the 72nd and 77th minutes as UCO pressed with four shots in that stretch. Central Oklahoma added a goal from Ariana Kingsberry in the 78th minute and carried the two-goal advantage for the remainder of the match.
Hibbard scored on her lone shot attempt, putting it on goal and finishing with two points. Hogan recorded an assist for RSU. Butts (4-2-1) made seven saves in goal and played all 90 minutes.
Rogers State will return to action against the NSU RiverHawks next Friday in Tahlequah at 7 p.m.
