CLAREMORE, Okla. — No. 6 RSU men's soccer (2-0-0) cruised to a 3-1 victory over Maryville (1-1-0) on Saturday at Soldier Field, with all three goals scored in the first half.
The match began with RSU asserting an early offensive presence.
Grayson Horsley opened the scoring at 18:17 with an assist from
Alex Fletcher, giving the Hillcats a 1-0 lead.
Harkaran Sahota then extended the advantage with his first career goal at 34:21 following a sequence of shots, pushing the score to 2-0.
Jamie Kennedy capped the first period with a third goal, the first of his career, at 42:58, assisted by Sahota, to conclude the half with the Hillcats leading 3-0.
RSU maintained momentum in the second half despite a series of fouls and yellow cards. The team was proactive in their offensive efforts, with
Alex Laing and
Matthew Reed both taking notable shots, although they were unable to convert them into goals. The Saints managed to break through with a goal by Jan Fulnek at the 79:36 mark, closing the gap slightly.
Despite this, the Cats' held their advantage, concluding the half with a 3-1 lead. The game ended with RSU securing the victory, maintaining their two-goal margin.
Tristan Miller made five saves, securing the win for RSU in goal. Sahota contributed significantly with one goal and one assist, including the game-winning goal. Horsley added a goal, finishing with two shots on target. Fletcher recorded an assist while taking three shots in the match.
RSU men's soccer will return to action next Wednesday against No. 13 Rockhurst in Kansas City, Missouri.
