Hillcats Sweep Tritons on Friday to Secure Second Series Win of 2026

The Hillcats won the first game 2-1 in 10 innings and the second 4-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Rogers State baseball (6-1) collected a doubleheader sweep over Missouri-St. Louis (2-5) at RCB Bank Sports Complex on Friday. The Hillcats won the first game 2-1 in 10 innings and the second 4-1.

GAME ONE: RSU 2, UMSL 1 (10 Innings)
In the first game, RSU secured a 2-1 victory in a tense, extra-inning matchup. Both teams were held scoreless through the first six innings, showcasing solid pitching and defense.

In the seventh inning, UMSL broke through with an RBI single, giving them a brief 1-0 lead. The Hillcats responded in the bottom of the inning when Jake Mitchell singled down the right-field line, allowing pinch runner Jordan Tucker to score, tying the game at 1-1 after seven innings.

In the 10th inning, the Hillcats capitalized on a crucial opportunity. After Tyler Nelson walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Sammy Harris delivered a game-winning RBI single through the left side, bringing T. Nelson home, who coasted over the catcher to tag the plate. The initial call was out at home, but video review would overturn the ruling.

Zach Horwith delivered an impressive performance, pitching 6.0 innings while allowing only one hit and no earned runs. Horwith faced 20 batters, striking out five and maintaining a WHIP of 0.17, with no walks issued. Ricardo Landeros pitched 2.0 innings in relief, conceding one earned run on three hits, while striking out two batters. Michael Klein (2-0) closed with two innings of scoreless pitching, surrendering only one hit and striking out two.

GAME TWO: RSU 4, UMSL 1
In the second game, RSU maintained control and secured a 4-1 victory over the Tritons.

The Tritons took an early lead in the first inning on a sacrifice bunt to strike first. However, the Hillcats responded in the bottom of the second inning. After a walk by Mitchell and another by Zak Nelson, Gavin Gamino delivered an RBI single to left field. A throwing error by the catcher allowed both Mitchell and Nelson to score, putting RSU ahead 2-1 after the second inning.

With his walk in the fourth inning, Mitchell, the RSU all-time leader in walks, collected his 100th career walk for the Hillcats.

RSU extended its lead in the seventh inning. Blake Conrad singled and advanced to third on a passed ball and wild pitch. Tucker's walk, followed by a stolen base, set up Tyler Nelson, who doubled to right center, driving in both Conrad and Tucker. T. Nelson was tagged out attempting to advance to third, but the damage was done, with RSU leading 4-1 after the seventh inning.

RSU maintained control, with Mason Trotter retiring the Tritons in order in the eighth inning. UMSL managed a single in the ninth but could not capitalize, as the RSU defense secured the final outs. The game concluded with RSU securing a 4-1 victory.

Dillon Dibrell (2-0) delivered a strong performance, pitching six innings and allowing only one earned run on one hit, while striking out three and walking one to collect his second win in the Red and Navy. Trotter contributed significantly as well, pitching three innings in relief and securing his first save as a Hillcat, allowing just one hit and no runs

RSU will return to action on Sunday for the finale against the Tritons at 1 p.m
