PITTSBURG, Kan. — Rogers State Women's Soccer (4-4-2, 2-3-0 MIAA) lost to undefeated No. 4 Pittsburg State (10-0-2, 4-0-2 MIAA) 5-0 on Sunday at Gorilla Soccer Pitch. RSU was held to two shots, both on goal, while facing 32 shots and 17 on frame. The Hillcats made 12 saves, including nine in the second half, but the Gorillas scored twice before halftime and added three goals after the break.
RSU fell behind in the first half when the Gorillas' Sammie Edwards scored in the 18th minute.
Bella Holland and
Zoe Wehrman answered with back-to-back shots on goal less than two minutes later, but Jocelyn Kramar saved both attempts.
Calais Butts made two saves during a late Gorillas stretch, but Carrie Cunningham scored in the 42nd minute, as RSU went into halftime down 2-0.
The Hillcats spent the second half under sustained pressure after the Gorillas scored in the 47th minute to make it 3-0.
Eliza Naegle kept RSU from conceding immediately, saving a penalty kick in the 64th minute and adding four more saves before the Gorillas scored again in the 76th minute. The Gorillas added another goal in the 84th minute to claim the match 5-0;
Butts recorded a team-high six saves while starting in goal and playing 52:52.
Eliza Naegle added five saves in 29:01 in goal. Holland and Wehrman tallied the only shots for the Cats'.
The Hillcats will return to action next Friday at Soldier Field for International Student Night against No. 24 Washburn. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
