TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Hillcat Women's Soccer (4-3-2, 2-2-0 MIAA) fell to Northeastern State (6-3-2, 2-2-1 MIAA) 1-0 on Friday at DeLoache Field. RSU matched the RiverHawks with 13 shots and finished with six shots on goal, but was held scoreless.
RSU fell behind in the 18th minute when the RiverHawks scored. Earlier,
Calais Butts kept the match scoreless with a save on Jaclyn Barritt in the fourth minute, and
Taylor Colmo sent the Hillcats' first shot wide in the ninth. After the RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead, RSU earned three corner kicks from 18:26 to 23:59 and followed with attempts from
Bella Holland and
Anna Hibbard, including Hibbard shot saved by Juliette Langlet. Holland added two more shots later in the push, with Langlet saving her try at 29:57, but the Hillcats went into halftime trailing 1-0.
The Hillcats spent the second half trying to erase a 1-0 deficit, creating eight shots and three corner kicks but coming away without the tying goal as the RiverHawks held on for a 1-0 final. Holland put a shot wide in the 49th minute before
Cynthia Solis and
Kelsey Hogan forced saves in the 58th minute. Butts kept RSU within one during the early stretch, saving attempts at 51:20 and 61:48 as the RiverHawks applied pressure. The Hillcats generated another spell through
Te Waiariki Read's two attempts in the 67th and 68th minutes and Hogan's saved shot at 73:18, then added back-to-back corners in the 79th minute. After a physical stretch, Hibbard missed wide in the 89th minute and Holland forced Langlet's final save in the final minute.
Holland led RSU with five shots and put two on goal. Hogan recorded two shots, both on frame. Butts played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with three saves.
The Hillcats will return to action on Sunday in Pittsburg, Kansas, against the fourth-ranked Gorillas at 1 p.m.
