PITTSBURG, Kan. – Junior
Amy Morefield's school record and NCAA Division II Provision run in the 3000m highlighted a stellar showing from the RSU track and field on Friday inside the Robert W. Plaster Center at Harvey Dean Track.
The day kicked off with the men's mile, where
Jaxson Wheeler finished 12th with a time of 4:27.19. Close behind,
Jack Morgan crossed the finish line 16th at 4:31.18, while
Karsen Hennigh followed in 17th with a time of 4:32.22.
Tanner Jenks secured 20th place with a time of 4:34.56, and
Adam Sium finished 22nd at 4:35.64.
Colton Storm rounded out the mile, placing 28th with a time of 4:41.64.
In the women's mile race,
Sisely Mitchell earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 5:12.26.
Kiera Blumhof crossed the finish line 10th at 5:17.95, while
Emily Cruz added an 11th-place finish, clocking in a personal best of 5:18.13.
Tehya Lang rounded out the mile team, finishing 19th with a time of 5:39.42.
Next up was the 400m dash, where
Phillip Owens recorded a personal season best of 49.98 for 16th place.
Ann-Marie Dorsey finished 21st in the women's 400-meter with a time of 1:03.54.
In the men's 600y race, the Conder brothers both achieved top-10 finishes in a tightly contested sibling battle.
Ian Conder captured fifth place with a personal best of 1:12.63, while
Isaac Conder finished sixth with a time of 1:13.84.
Sam Russell led the way in the men's 800m, crossing the line 14th with a personal best of 1:56.93, while
Riley Pauley followed closely in 22nd at 1:59.28.
In the women's 800m,
Kenzie Gilliam snagged fifth place with a solid time of 2:21.92.
Stella Jones crossed the finish line seventh, recording a personal best of 2:22.91.
Isabel Bush also excelled, finishing 17th with a personal best of 2:29.24.
The final event of the afternoon for the men, the grueling 3000m, showcased endurance and grit from all four runners.
Nathaneal Gibson led the charge, securing fourth place with a remarkable personal best time of 8:32.02.
Blake Feron finished seventh at 8:36.70, also achieving a personal best.
Clint Stapleton and
Aidan Jimenez followed, finishing in 14th and 18th place, respectively, both setting personal bests of 8:50.39 and 8:54.19.
The highlight of the day was from Morefield, who finished third in the women's 3000m, breaking a school record with an impressive NCAA Division II provisional time of 9:42.86.
Audrey McElhaney finished 27th with a personal best of 11:09.90.
Ryann Barber also found her stride, crossing the line shortly after in 28th place with a personal best of 11:14.11.
Brielle Coons finished 31st with a time of 11:41.90 as the meet concluded.
A select group of Hillcat track and field members will compete at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Massachusetts, on Jan. 30-31 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. RSU will also return to the Jungle for the Pittsburg State Invitational on Jan. 31.
