KEARNEY, Neb. — Rogers State women's soccer (2-7-6, 2-5-3 MIAA) fell to Nebraska-Kearney (3-8-4, 1-5-4 MIAA) 2-0 on Friday at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
Despite outshooting the Logers with 12 attempts, including six on target, RSU could not find the back of the net. The Logers secured the win with goals in each half, while their goalkeeper recorded a shutout with six saves. The Hillcats' defense tallied five saves, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
The first half began with RSU actively seeking early opportunities, as
Kenzie Macklin's shot hit the top woodwork in the third minute. The team's offensive push continued, with
Amber Arnold and
Rylee Shroder both testing the opposition's goalkeeper, Susie Bovaird, but their attempts were saved.
The Logers capitalized on their chances, breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute with a goal by Jordan Renard, assisted by Iliana Wurzbacher and Kea Barnes. Despite several saves from
Calais Butts, RSU trailed 1-0 as the half closed, aiming to regroup for the subsequent half.
The second half began with the Hillcats seeking to change the game's trajectory.
Khari Carreno initiated pressure with an early shot at 45:56, but it was saved by Bovaird.
Kelsey Hogan also aimed to capitalize with several attempts, including one striking the top woodwork, but Bovaird continued to deny scoring opportunities.
Despite RSU's offensive efforts, the Logers found the net in the 62nd minute through Barnes, assisted by Shaeley Reichmuth, extending their lead. RSU continued to press forward with
Brooke Hartshorn and
Courtney Castleberry also taking shots, though they failed to convert. The half concluded with RSU unable to alter the score, as the game ended with a 2-0 advantage for the Logers.
RSU will return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Hays, Kansas, against the Fort Hays State Tigers.
