RICHARDSON, Texas. – Rogers State women's soccer (1-5) dropped a 1-0 road match to UT Dallas (2-3) in a defensive struggle on Friday.
Â
The first half of the match saw both sides deadlock in a defensive standoff. The Hillcats outshot the Comets 7-3 in the period, with the two teams each taking two shots on goal. RSU's first opportunity to score came early in the 12th minute as
Alix Tirado-Negrete fired a shot toward the lower left corner of the goal only for it to be saved. She tried again four minutes later in the 16th minute to same spot with the same result.
Â
In the second half, the two sides began to find more offensive momentum as the Hillcats again outshot UTD 10-6 with four shots on goal compared to three. Unfortunately, the Comets made their shots count as they broke the scoreless stalemate in the 50th minute with a goal to go up 1-0. Tirado-Negrete,
Morgan Martucci and
Jordyn Smith all attempted equalizing shots but could not get the ball past the UTD keeper.
Â
The Hillcats will stay on the road as they open MIAA play with a trip to St. Joseph, Mo. on Friday, Sept. 27 to face off against Missouri Western. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
