WICHITA, Kan. – No. 4 Rogers State softball (36-8, 19-3 MIAA) closed out the road trip with a doubleheader sweep of Newman (16-28, 4-14 MIAA) on Saturday, posting wins of 12-1 and 12-3.

GAME 1 – RSU 12, NU 1 (5 Innings)

After a scoreless first inning, the Hillcats jumped on the board with four runs in the second.
Lana Gass drove in
Callie Yellin and
Kaylee Lyon with a two-run single to center to bring the first two runs home.
Chelsea Spain followed suit as she plated Gass and
Ashtyn Barrett with her own bases-clearing single to center.

Abbey Rogers tacked on two more runs in the third to go up 6-0, belting a two-run bomb over the left center field wall that scored
Bridgett Morales.

RSU put the game out of reach in the fourth as they exploded for six runs to push out to a 12-0 lead.
Paxton Donaldson launched a one-out, solo shot to right to get things started. Yellin followed it up later in the frame as she got in on the home run fun with a three-run round tripper to straight-away center, plating Morales and
McKayla Carney. Barrett rounded things out with the fourth homer of the game, this one of the two-run variety that scored Lyon.

Newman got a run in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single to right center the set the final score at 12-1.

Sara Llamas-Howell (17-5) earned the win with a 4.0 inning start scattering two hits with two strikeouts. Zoe Fulks (1-3) took the loss.

GAME 2 – RSU 12, NU 3 (5 Innings)

The Hillcats jumped in front first again with a 1-0 lead to start the second game.
Abbey Rogers drove in
McKayla Carney with a single to left.
Â
They added two more runs in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Carney plated both
Lana Gass and
Kaylee Lyon with a double to left.
Â
The Jets offense woke up in the bottom half as they were able to tie the game at 3-3. A two RBI single to left center and a RBI single to center brought in the runs.

RSU broke the game wide open with nine runs in the fourth to seal the win at 12-3.
Ashtyn Barrett led off the frame with a solo blast to center.
Bridgett Morales drove in
Paxton Donaldson and
Chelsea Spain with a double to left. Yellin belted her second three-run bomb of the day to center, scoring
Bobbi Leitha and
Bridgett Morales. Gass closed out the inning with her own three-run homer to center, plating Barrett and Lyon.

Jade Sanders (14-2) earned the win after a 4.1 inning start that saw her allow three runs on four hits with six strikeouts.
Harley Culie was also excellent as she came in to slam the door for the final two outs in the fifth inning, scattering one hit with a strikeout. Jackie Gold (8-10) took the loss.

The Hillcats return to action on Tuesday, March 16 as they renew an old NAIA rivalry with a doubleheader against Oklahoma City inside the friendly confines of the Diamond Sports Complex to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
