CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 4 Rogers State softball (14-4) took care of business in a home run-filled doubleheader sweep of Rockhurt (3-7) on Saturday.

GAME 1 – RSU 16, RU 0 (5 Innings)

With six home runs in the game, RSU broke the single game school record for homers which previously was set at five, happening five different times since 2009.

The Hillcats set the tone early for what would become an offensive onslaught as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Paxton Donaldson got things started with a one out single to left.
McKayla Carney drove her in with a triple to center field.
Â
They added another run in the second inning to go up 2-0.
Kaylee Lyon launched her first bomb of the day to left field to lead off the frame.

In the third inning, RSU exploded for 12 runs to break the game wide open with a 14-0 lead. The frame featured five home runs, including three in a row, from Donaldson,
Abbey Rogers,
Callie Yellin (who was responsible for two) and Lyon (who got her second round-tripper of the game).
Lana Gass and
Mariah Belzer also earned RBI with bases loaded walks.

The Hillcats tacked on two final runs in the bottom of the fourth to seal the 16-0 win.
Brooke Nauman brought in
Sydney Norton with a sacrifice fly to left. Belzer later scored
Bobbi Leitha with a fielder's choice to short.

Sara Llamas-Howell (7-2) earned the win with an incredible 4.0 inning start, scattering one hit with six strikeouts.
Harley Culie was also great out of the bullpen, striking out all three Hawk batters in the fifth inning. Avery Huffman (2-3) took the loss.

GAME 2 – RSU 8, RU 0 (5 Innings)

The game of the doubleheader picked up right were the first one left off as RSU opened with a seven-run first inning. On the first pitch she saw,
Lana Gass got in on the home run fun with a solo shot to left.
Ashtyn Barrett later doubled in
Kaylee Lyon and
Abbey Rogers.
Chelsea Spain plated Barrett and
Callie Yellin with a single left. Gass drove in her second and third RBI of the frame with a double to center that scored
Bridgett Morales and Spain.

The Hillcats added on final run in the third inning to claim the 8-0 win.
Brooke Nauman added to homer party with her own solo shot to left center.

Jade Sanders (5-2) was outstanding in the circle in her 4.0 inning start, scattering 2 hits with five strikeouts. Again,
Harley Culie shined in the final inning, also scattering two hits with a strikeout. Anna Stephens (1-1) suffered the loss.

RSU will be back in action on Wednesday, March 6 as they travel to Denton, Texas to face off against Texas Woman's in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
