RSU Comes Back From Down Three To Win Against Hornets

EMPORIA, Kan. – Rogers State baseball (13-9, 6-6 MIAA) came back from down 3-0 to claim a 6-4 win over Emporia State (13-13, 4-8 MIAA) on Saturday to even the series at a game apiece.
 
After a scoreless first inning, the Hornets went up 1-0 in the second inning. A single to right scored the run.
 
They added two more runs in the second to push out to a 3-0 margin. Two doubles to center and left center, respectively, scored the runs.
 
The Hillcats answered back in the fourth with a run to cut the deficit to 3-1. Geovanni Blackshaw blasted a 0-1 pitch for a triple that scored Matthew Delgado.
 
RSU added three runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead 4-3. Jake Mitchell got things started with a single to right that drove in Matthew Schure. Mitchell later crossed home on a groundout by Joel Escalante. Delgado plated AJ Folds with a single through the right side of the infield.
 
ESU responded in the bottom half by tying things at 4-4 with a run. A fielder's choice to second scored the run.
 
The Hillcats went back up 6-4 in the seventh inning with two final runs. Delgado drove in both Folds and Richie Ponce with a single up the middle.
 
Andres De Leon (1-1) earned the win, working 3.0 innings in relief scattering one hit with no earned runs and three strikeouts. Octavio Sanchez (5) earned the save, working a perfect final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts. Landon Riley was also excellent out of the bullpen, throwing 1.2 innings, scattering one hit with three strikeouts. Hayden Baumwart (2-1) took the loss.
 
The Hillcats will look to claim the series in the final game tomorrow. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
