CLAREMORE, Okla. - In a game that was close through three quarters, Rogers State women's basketball (1-0) outscored Oklahoma Baptist (0-1) 20-5 in the fourth quarter to claim the 62-48 win for the Hillcats in the second game on the first day of the MIAA/GAC Challenge.

"We did a great job defending and wore OBU down in the fourth quarter," said Head Coach
Heather Davis. "They are a very good and well coached team and were picked third in the GAC for a reason. I am so proud of our girls and our bench played incredible, especially down the stretch, which I loved seeing."

Two Hillcats finished in double figures in the win.
Ella Hafer scored 16 points and was two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight rebounds. She also tallied two assists and delivered a steal.
Bailey Layman scored 14 points. She pulled down five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Cheyan McDaniel scored eight points with two rebounds, an assist and a steal.

RSU began the contest defending well, as OBU did not score until the 7:23 mark in the first quarter. OBU hit some shots, but so did the Hillcats. The score was deadlocked at 14 going into the second quarter.

The second quarter was similar to the first, as both teams played lockdown defense. However, as the quarter progressed, both offenses found some success. The Hillcats carried a slight one point, 24-23 advantage going into the locker room.

The third quarter was a nail biter, and both teams picked up the pace on offense. OBU hit some shots, but the Hillcats managed to respond and closed the quarter on an 8-4 run. But this time, the Bison held a 43-42 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

RSU put the game away in the fourth quarter with a huge 15-3 run in a span of eight minutes. The Bison only scored five points in the fourth quarter, which resulted in the 62-48 victory for the Hillcats.

RSU will close out the MIAA/GAC Challenge tomorrow against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
