JOPLIN, Mo. – Rogers State women's soccer (1-7-2, 0-2-2 MIAA) battled Missouri Southern (1-5-4, 0-2-2 MIAA) to a 0-0 draw in the defensive road match on Sunday.
 
"While we are frustrated with the result today, we know we went undefeated this weekend," said Head Coach Chris Jones. "We are disappointed in the result today but came away with a point. We look forward to next Sunday and getting back to work this week."
 
Tiffany Brittan logged her first clean sheet of the season in net while making three saves.
 
This game was a defensive struggle for both sides from the opening kickoff. In the first half, the Hillcats outshot the Lions 6-3 with three shots on goal compared to two. The Hillcats' first opportunity to score came in the 23rd minute as Valerie Hernandez fired a shot toward the bottom right corner of the goal that was saved. Alix Tirado-Negrete then tried for the middle of the goal with the same result in the 26th minute. Kenzie Macklin made an effort for the same spot with the keeper making another save in the 37th minute.
 
The second half saw more of the same as this time it was MSSU who came out on top with a 4-3 shot margin over RSU with two shots on goal to one. The Hillcats' last best chance to break the stalemate came in the 71st minute as Delana King fired in a shot that was again saved. Thankfully, the RSU defense held, and they earned a point in the league's standings.
 
RSU returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 13 as they travel to Maryville, Mo. for a matchup against Northwest Missouri. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
