RSU Steals The Draw Over Bronchos In Wild Finish On The Road

EDMOND, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (2-10-3, 1-5-3 MIAA) closed out the final regular season road trip in dramatic fashion as they came back from down 2-0 in the final five minutes of the match to steal a 2-2 draw with Central Oklahoma (8-5-3, 5-2-3 MIAA) on Sunday.

"All season this group has shown that they won't give up and they didn't do that today," said Head Coach Chris Jones. "What a crazy last 10-minute period. The resiliency of this group is amazing! We played well today and got the result on the road!"

Alix Tirado-Negete and Hope Jensen both got on the scoresheet in the win. Despite allowing two goals, Marlou Frieling was solid in net with five saves.

The Hillcats were a little sluggish in the first half as the Bronchos controlled the flow of the game early on. In fact, they got on the board in short order, taking a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, and outshot RSU eight to one in the period with all four shots on goal.

The second half was bit more even with both teams finding offensive success. UCO barely outshot the Hillcats five to four, with both sides taking three shots on goal. Most of the period saw the two sides crank up the defensive pressure. However, things began to loosen up offensively in the final 10 minutes as the Bronchos went up 2-0 in the 81st minute. In the 86th minute, RSU earned a penalty kick right in the mouth of the goal. Alix Tirado-Negrete lined up for the kick and drove it home to cut the deficit in half. Just over minute later, Hope Jensen fired a shot to the upper left corner of the goal for the equalizer off a cross into the box from Amaris Jasso to secure the 2-2 draw.

The Hillcats will return to the friendly confines of Soldier Field on Friday, Nov. 1 as they begin the final three-game homestand of the regular season against Nebraska-Kearney on Senior Night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
