The match began with both sides feeling each other out. However, the Hillcats found offensive success in the 17th minute as Alex Lang went top shelf for the early 1-0 lead off a long cross from
Sam Ryder. They had a chance to go up 2-0 in the 31st minute, but
Marcos Vasallo's shot missed just right as it narrowly careened off the right woodwork. RSU would go on to outshoot the RiverHawks six to five in the period with all three shots on goal.
Â
The offensive pressure picked up for both sides in the second half as the Hillcats again outshot NSU 15-11 with both teams taking five shots on goal. RSU peppered the opposing defense relentlessly in the period but couldn't get anything to fall to pad their lead. Late in the match, in the 80th minute, the RiverHawks finally broke through as they scored the equalizer off a cross into the box to force the 1-1 draw.
