Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 25 Rogers State Takes Down Rival No. 16 Northeastern State On The Road

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – No. 25 Rogers State men's soccer (5-2-2, 2-1 GAC/MIAA) notched another Top 25 win as they took down rival No. 16 Northeastern State (3-2-2, 1-1 GAC/MIAA) on the road on Thursday.

Hugo Martin scored his third goal of the season in the win, with Sebastian Hernandez picking up the assist. Declan Viljoen (5-2) earned his second clean sheet of the year making two saves.

The first half was an evenly matched, heavy defensive period between the two sides. Both sides took four shots with the Hillcats making one on target without any from the RiverHawks. RSU's lone shot on goal came in the second minute of game with a team save made on the play. After 45 minutes, both teams headed into the break deadlocked in a scoreless affair.

In the second half, the Hillcats increased the offensive pressure while still working to smother NSU's attack. RSU outshot the RiverHawks 10-4 in the period with five shots on goal compared to just two. In the 56th minute, Hugo Martin struck the deciding blow as he fired in the game winning shot off a pass from Sebastian Hernandez to break the stalemate to give the Hillcats a 1-0 lead. With time running out, the RiverHawks made one final attempt to equalize with a shot in the 87th minute, only for Viljoen to make the save and seal the victory.

RSU will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. to face off against Ouachita Baptist. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
