COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 13 Rogers State men's soccer (3-1-2) took down No. 14 UC Colorado Springs (3-1-2) in a 2-1 victory on the road to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Saturday.

Two Hillcats found their way onto the score sheet in the win. Both
Ruben Carrasco and
Hugo Martin found the back of the net for their first goals of the season, with
Matthew Sweetman earning an assist.
Declan Viljoen (3-1) earned the win with one save and allowing one goal.

RSU wasted no time going on the attack as
Ruben Carrasco fired in a shot in the second minute off a pass from
Matthew Sweetman to put the Hillcats up 1-0 early. Afterwards, things began to settle in with the Cougars managing to outshoot RSU 12-6 in the period with two shots on goal compared to just one. In the 34th minute, UCCS would equalize with a goal to send it to the break tied up at 1-1.

The second half saw the Hillcats begin to impose their will as they refused to allow the Cougars to take a shot on target. Meanwhile, RSU took three shots on goal, eight total in the final 45 minutes. In the 74th minute,
Hugo Martin threaded the needle between defenders and fired a ball into the left corner of the goal to secure the 2-1 win for the Hillcats.

RSU will return home on Thursday, Sept. 21 as began GAC/MIAA play and welcome defending champion Southern Nazarene into the friendly confines of Soldier Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
