CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (6-7-2, 4-5 MIAA) fell to Missouri Western (5-5-5, 3-2-2 MIAA) in a 2-0 decision on Friday.
Â
Tiffany Brittan (5-7) had the game of her life as she made 12 saves, including a penalty kick save. This performance marks a career-high in saves for the junior.
Â
During the first half, the Griffons were on a mission to score a goal, as they took 15 shots, with seven of those shots on goal. Brittan was on a larger mission though, as she made seven saves in the first half, and made three of those saves within the first five minutes of the game. RSU struggled to get anything going on offense, as they were limited to just three shots with two on goal. Neither team could score a goal in the period, which resulted in a scoreless tie at the half.
Â
The Griffons kept up the offensive pressure in the second half and scored the first goal of the game in the 48th minute when Elisabeth Pujado scored on a long shot from around 35 yards out. Four minutes later, MWSU was awarded a penalty kick and Jaden Skinner scored to go up 2-0. Vanessa Gonzales gave the Hillcats their best scoring chance off a brilliant cross in the 53rd minute, but the Griffons unfortunately kept the ball out of the net. MWSU was awarded another penalty kick in the 76th minute, but Brittan made a miraculous save with another save immediately on the rebound.
Â
RSU will need a short memory as they will close out their four game home stand on Sunday, Oct. 22 hosting Northwest Missouri in a huge MIAA contest for both teams. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
