RSU Comes Up Short In Game Two Against Gorillas

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Rogers State baseball (19-17, 12-10 MIAA) came up short 7-5 in the second game of the series against Pittsburg State (22-12, 16-6 MIAA) on Saturday.

The Hillcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first inning. Picking up where he left off in the first game of the series, Jesse Holguin drove in Gavin Mestas with a RBI single through the right side of the infield.

RSU expanded its lead to 4-0 with three runs in the top of the third. Holguin again plated Mestas, this time with a RBI double to left. Skyler Nelson returned the favor as Holguin and Jonathan Soto crossed home on Nelson's two RBI double to center.

The Gorillas sprang to life in the bottom of the fifth as they exploded for five runs to take a 5-4 lead. The first two runs came on a two RBI single to left. The other three runs scored on RBI singles to left and center and a ground out to third.

The Hillcats responded and tied things at 5-5 with a run in the top of the sixth. Joel Escalante scored on a Victor Ceniceros RBI single to right center.
