OKLAHOMA CITY – Rogers State softball (14-2) dropped the final game of the Edmond Regional Festival 13-5 to Lubbock Christian (12-2) on Sunday.
After both starters worked a scoreless opening frame to start the game, the Chaparrals got on the board first in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The first run came in on a RBI single to center, with the other run crossing on a sacrifice fly to left.
The Hillcats responded in the top of the third with three runs to go up 3-2. Nicole Price scored RSU's first run on a wild pitch. Chelsea Spain then blasted a two-run homer over the left center field wall bringing in Tailee Reding.
LCU took the lead back in the bottom half with three runs of their own for a 5-3 lead. The first two runs came in on a two-run home run to center, with the other run coming on a solo blast to left.
The Chaps exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth to push out to 11-3. A total of four homers scored all six runs with two two-run bombs and two solo shots.
The Hillcats got two runs back in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 11-5. Jaylan Gibson got in on the home run fun with a two-run blast of her own, scoring Reding.
LCU tacked on two final runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 13-5 victory. Both runs came in on walkoff two RBI single to center.
Maxine Valdez (6-1) earned the win. Andrea Morales (9-1) took her first loss of the season.
The Hillcats will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 26 as they open the home schedule at the Diamond Sports Complex with a non-conference doubleheader against Texas Woman's. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
