Hillcats Take Down Southern Nazarene, No. 15 Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. – Rogers State softball (8-1) finished day two of the OC/UCO Invitational 2-0 with a 2-1 win over Southern Nazarene (1-5) and a 1-0 win over No. 15 Oklahoma Christian (5-2) on Saturday.

GAME ONE - RSU 2, SNU 1

After both starting pitchers worked scoreless frames to begin the first game of the day, the Crimson Storm got on the board first with a solo home run to right center in the top of the second inning.

The Hillcats knotted it up 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning. Rebecca Bell scored on a RBI groundout back to the pitcher by Marissa Smith.

RSU took the lead 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the fourth. After Elexis Watson walked on four pitches, she later crossed home on a RBI groundout to the shortstop by Abbey Rogers.

After giving up the run in the second inning, Abbey Beasley (2-0) pitched three more shutout inning ND earned the win with seven strikeouts while only allowing three hits. M'Kayla Hillman (1) went the remaining two innings with one strikeout and only allowing one hit to earn the save. Chelsea Vandiver (0-2) took the loss.

GAME TWO - RSU 1, No. 15 OC 0

The second game of the day was a true pitchers duel with both starters going six innings before giving up a run.

The Hillcats scattered four hits and stranded six runners across the first six frames before Chelsea Spain scored the game winning run on a solo homer over the left field wall in the top of the seventh.

Andrea Morales (5-0) continued her lights out performance in the circle as she went the distance for the complete game shutout with seven strikeouts and only allowing the Eagles two hits with three walks.

RSU will close out the OC/UCO Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 13 as they take on Midwestern State and Cameron. The two games are set to start at 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., respectively.
