CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's soccer (5-2-2, 3-0-3 GAC/MIAA) took a 1-0 win over Newman (0-11-1, 0-6 GAC/MIAA) at home on Thursday.

Trindon Turner scored his second goal of the season in the win. Back-to-back GAC/MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week,
Declan Viljoen was excellent in goal as he made five saves on eight shots faced.

The opening half was a defensive struggle for both teams as neither had many offensive chances in the period. The Jets actually outshot RSU 4-3 in the first 45 minutes with three shots on goal compared to just one. The Hillcats best chance came in the 38th minute as
George Robinson fired in a shot to the upper right corner of the goal that was knocked away by the Jets keeper.

The Hillcats turned up the offensive intensity in the second half as they outshot Newman 9-4 in the period with both sides taking two shots on goal. In the 57th minute,
Trindon Turner broke the scoreless tie with a header off a free kick from
Ruben Carrasco to give the Hillcats the 1-0 lead. RSU almost added a second goal in the 77th minute as
Grant King blasted a laser off the underside of the crossbar that unfortunately bounced back into the field of play.

RSU returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 13 as they travel to Bethany, Okla. to face off against Southern Nazarene. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
